After a well-deserved bye, having won seven of their first eight games to sit in second place on the standings, coach John Dobson’s team return to action this weekend in Paarl where they always get great support from the local community.
There will be two local club rugby games played as curtain-raisers for the match, with Violets RC facing Allandale RC at 13h00 before Riverstone RC take on Lower Paarl RC at 15h15, and entry will be R20 at the gate.
Dobson said that his team is looking forward to playing at Faure Street which always has a special atmosphere.
“The Paarl community has a lot of clubs and the people really love their rugby, so it is a privilege for us to play in an area which has such great rugby history and traditions,” he said.
The DHL Western Province coach will have a few more options at his disposal this week with a few players returning from injury and some DHL Stormers players in need of game-time also in the mix.
“We had only one injury in our last game against the Leopards which was Frans van Wyk, and we have the likes of Justin Phillips, Chad Solomon and Tim Whitehead back,” he said.
Dobson said that his team’s consistency this season has put them in a great position to push on and finish top of the pile in the qualifying section of the Currie Cup.
“We are the only team that has lost only one game this season and we have played some of our most difficult fixtures so it is up to us to push on and win.
“It is pleasing to see what we have achieved so far considering the difficulties we had at the start of the campaign, and we will look to create a few opportunities for players over the next few weeks,” he said.
