DHL WP takes on the Ford Pumas in the semifinals of the Vodacom Cup on Saturday at 16h15, at DHL Newlands. The game is a curtain-raiser to the DHL Stormers home league fixture against the Cheetahs.
DHL WP last week beat the MTN Golden Lions in a home quarterfinal (58-34), at City Park in Cape Town, to progress to the semifinal. . DHL WP were the top side in the South Section of the competition and are the only unbeaten team. In the other Vodacom Cup semifinal the Vodacom Blue Bulls will travel to Kimberley to take on GWK Griquas.
DHL Western Province or the Ford Pumas will be making history on Saturday when one of them qualifies for the Vodacom Cup final in a weeks’ time.
Neither of these sides has ever made it past the semifinal stage of this competition. The final, will be held on the weekend of 18/19 May at the venue of the top team from the North Section.
This is in accordance to a decision taken last year, that the venue of the final of the Vodacom Cup will alternate between north and south (should teams from the relevant section reach the final). Last year the final was held at the venue of the top team from the south section that made the final (Pampas XV in Potch) and this year it will be at the home ground of the top team from the north section that makes the final (Kimberley, Nelspruit or Pretoria).
