DHL Western Province scored eight tries on their way to a comprehensive 50-3 SuperSport Rugby Challenge victory against SWD Eagles in Oudtshoorn on Sunday.
It was a clinical performance, showing hunger in both defence and attack, to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.
The home side made a determined start, taking the ball through mutliple phases, but the DHL Western Province defence held out admirably, forcing the SWD Eagles backwards with some big hits and impressive linespeed.
The first points came when DHL Western Province eventually got their hands on the ball, with an attacking grubber from Dan Kriel sitting up perfectly for fullback Craig Barry, who raced away to score.
The second try saw DHL Western Province launch waves of attacks, with forwards and backs getting over the gainline before it was worked wide to wing Duncan Saal, who was able to stroll over for the try.
Some good hands and a perfect skipp pass then saw No.8 Jaco Coetzee score in the corner, with all three difficult conversion attempts going wide to give the visitors a 15-0 advantage.
The home side got on the scoreboard with a penalty just before half-time, but those were to be their only points of the match and they went into the break trailing 15-3, with little to show for their dominance of territory and possession.
The first try in the second half came from some quick thinking from DHL Western Province scrumhalf Justin Phillips, who took a quick tap before diving over.
A superb offload in the tackle from Johan du Toit saw flyhalf Josh Stander go over for the next try, which he converted himself to take the lead out to 29-3 with 30 minutes left.
There were two further tries as replacements Steph de Wit and Brendon Esterhuizen both got on the scoresheet to secure a comfortable win.
