The DHL Western Province Sevens Men’s and Women’s teams both claimed the Plate at the SA Rugby Interprovincial Sevens at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
The DHL Western Province Sevens Men’s and Women’s teams both claimed the Plate at the SA Rugby Interprovincial Sevens at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
The Men’s team beat Eastern Province 26-14 in their Plate Final, whilst the Women’s team beat Free State to win their final.
A number of results again proved why there are no big names in Sevens, with the likes of SWD, Griffons and Border showing some big names teams that they are no pushovers.
With the national Springbok Sevens Women’s coach, Renfred Dazel, as well as Springbok Sevens Academy Coach Marius Schoeman and his assistant coach, Paul Delport, in attendance, a number of players showed that they can play at a higher level, but in the end it was good team play that ruled the day.
In the Men’s competition the Blue Bulls retained their title by beating the Golden Lions in the final, whilst in the Women’s competition Border claimed the Cup, beating the Blue Bulls in the final.
The men’s trophy winners are:
Shield: Pumas (Highveld), beating Free State 31-21
Bowl: Boland, beating Border 26-12
Plate: Western Province, beating Eastern Province 26-14
Third Place: Griffons, beating Pumas (Lowveld) 24-7
Cup: Blue Bulls, beating Golden Lions 40-10.
The Women trophy winners are:
Shield: Limpopo Blue Bulls, beating SWD 17-7
Bowl: Pumas, beating Leopards 21-5
Plate: Western Province, beating Free State 12-10
Third Place: Sharks, beating EP 14-12
Final Cup: Border, beating Blue Bulls 15-12
