DHL WP ready for Currie Cup challenge

PUBLISHED: July 24, 2017

DHL Western Province will host all six teams in the competition at DHL Newlands and play each team away before the top four qualify for the semifinals on October 21, with the final set to be played on October 28.

Coach John Dobson’s team will get their Currie Cup campaign underway at 14h30 on Sunday when they face the defending champion Toyota Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

The first home Currie Cup game at DHL Newlands this season will see DHL Western Province host the Steval Pumas, with kick-off at 15h00 on Saturday, August 5.

The competition kicked off last week, with opening round wins for the Toyota Free State Cheetahs against Cells C Sharks, Vodacom Blue Bulls against Tafel Lager Griquas and Steval Pumas against Xerox Golden Lions, while DHL Western Province had a bye.

As the most successful team in the history of South Africa’s premier domestic competition, DHL Western Province will be looking to add to to their 33 Currie Cup titles.

Last year, more than 300 tries were scored in the Currie Cup as the top teams entertained and enthralled, and more of the same is expected this year – and by the end of October, a host of questions will be answered.
