With all three DHL Western Province teams involved in a race for provincial silverware this season, a few players in Blue & White are emerging as serious points-scoring threats too.
DHL WP flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis (pictured) is third on the Absa Currie Cup points-scoring charts, with 88 points, just 14 behind Blue Bulls No.10 Louis Fouche (on 102).
In the try-scoring stakes, meanwhile, captain Deon Fourie and inside centre Marcel Brache have both touched down three times – just two behind the top try-scorers, CJ Stander (Vodacom Blue Bulls), Odwa Ndungane (The Sharks), Raymond Rhule (Toyota Free State Cheetahs) and Rocco Jansen (GWK Griquas).
Another three DHL WP players, Louis Schreuder, JP du Plessis and Gerhard van den Heever, have scored two tries this season – helping WP to third place on the log ahead of their home game against the MTN Golden Lions this weekend.
Elsewhere in SA’s provincial competitions, WP Under-21 flyhalf Tim Swiel is his team’s leading scorer with 64 points, whilst injured winger Devon Williams (six) tops his team’s try-scoring charts. The WP U21s are in third place on the log, with a crucial away clash against the Sharks today.
In the Under-19 competition, flyhalf Tommy Allan (with 89 points) is the leading points-scorer in his age-group, with winger JP Lewis (with eight tries) the top try-scorer in the U19 competition – the standings being led by the WP U19s at present.
