PUBLISHED: August 11, 2018

DHL Western Province scored nine tries on their way to a resounding 59-14 victory against French side Narbonne in a pre-season friendly in Millau on Saturday.

The defending Currie Cup champions scored four tries in the first half and five in the second, conceding just two against their French opponents.

DHL Western Province scored four tries in the first half and conceded a single penalty try to take a 24-7 advantage into the half-time break.

The visitors got on the scoreboard early on with unconverted tries from No.8 Juarno Augustus and scrumhalf Paul de Wet.

Inside centre Dan Kriel then scored under the poles and the try was converted by flyhalf Josh Stander to put them 17-0 up after the opening 15 minutes.

Hooker and captain Scarra Ntubeni claimed an overthrown line-out by Narbonne to go over for the fourth try, before the French outfit had the final say in the first half with a penalty try.

Ntubeni went over for his second try from a driving maul early in the second half, while a few quick taps saw Salmaan Moerat cross the whitewash and De Wet get over for his second try.

Narbonne claimed an intercept try late on, but DHL Western Province responded with a superb individual effort from replacement Dillyn Leyds who converted his own try before adding another after the final hooter to seal the victory.
