DHL WP outlast Griffons in Welkom

DHL Western Province scored four tries on their way to a bonus point 25-21 Currie Cup win against Novavit Griffons in Welkom on Friday.

The opening exchanges were tense, with both teams failing to capitalise on attacking opportunities.

The deadlock was broken on the 20-minute mark with a penalty from DHL Western Province fullback Clayton Blommetjies.

The visitors followed that up with tries from forwards Jarrod Taylor and Andre-Hugo Venter to give them a 13-0 advantage at half-time.

They took it out to 20-0 early in the second half, with captain Jean-Luc du Plessis finishing an impressive team try.

They had the bonus point wrapped up with 30 minutes still to play as scrumhalf Thomas Bursey toed a loose ball ahead and then collected to score.

DHL Western Province were reduced to 14 when loosehead prop Kwenzo Blose was shown a yellow card after repeated infringements from his side.

Asa a result the home side were able to score three quick tries, to bring themselves right back into it at 25-21.

DHL Western Province were foced to hang on in the end, but they did enough to take a full five log points home with them.
