DHL WP injury report – 25/08/14

PUBLISHED: August 25, 2014

Centre Michael van der Spuy is the only injury worry for DHL Western Province coach Allister Coetzee ahead of Saturday’s away meeting against the Vodacom Blue Bulls in Pretoria.

Van der Spuy has a tight hamstring and did not train on Monday, but hooker Scarra Ntubeni – although not ready for selection as yet – rejoined training today.

Should Van der Spuy be ruled out of action, Jaco Taute (on the bench last week) and Pat Howard (who came off the bench in Round One) would come into the selection equation an centre.

DHL WP, on top of the Absa Currie Cup log after three wins from three starts thus far in 2014, will take on the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, August 30 (kick-off 17h05), with the unbeaten Under-19s and Under-21s also in action in Pretoria on the same day.

The full DHL Western Province injury report (25/08/14):

– Centre Michael van der Spuy is an injury concern from last week with a tight hamstring. He is the only selection worry ahead of this week’s away clash against the Blue Bulls.
– Hooker Stephan Coetzee (bruised ankle) is 100% and will be considered for selection against the Bulls.
– Hooker Scarra Ntubeni (calf muscle) is training but not on track for this week. He could be considered for selection against the EP Kings (at home) next weekend, but it depends on his conditioning.
– Prop Oli Kebble (ankle) will be ready to go at 100% in two weeks’ time (v Golden Lions, away).

QUOTES FROM DHL WESTERN PROVINCE COACH ALLISTER COETZEE:

On his team’s continued improvement on a weekly basis:

“It was a great effort against the Lions (last week) but we’re still not 100% happy, there’s a lot we can (still) improve on.

“We need to keep on looking after – and respecting – the ball. Our penalty count and turnover count are constantly being monitored and we need to ensure we’re always making an improvement there.”

On facing the Blue Bulls in Pretoria:

“We will never underestimate a team. The Bulls did well to beat the EP Kings last week. Don’t look at the scoreline, they’ve come off a difficult few weeks and it was a big and valuable win for them.”
