DHL Western Province scrumhalf Nic Groom will miss his team’s Absa Currie Cup trip to Johannesburg this weekend, after suffering a shoulder injury against the EP Kings last Friday.
Groom came on as a replacement against the Kings but took a knock to his Sternoclavicular Joint (SC Joint – shoulder) in the dying moments of the match.
DHL WP will face the Xerox Golden Lions at Ellis Park on Saturday (kick-off 17h05). The Province team will be announced on Thursday.
The full DHL Western Province injury report (08/09/14):
– Scrumhalf Nic Groom (SC Joint – shoulder) will miss this Saturday’s clash against the Lions, but could hopefully be back next weekend (v Griquas, September 20).
– Fullback Cheslin Kolbe (knee hyper-extension). It’s too early to say if there is bone-bruising, but it will be given time to settle. He will run more later in the week and a call will be made on him by Thursday (when the team is announced).
– Hooker Scarra Ntubeni (calf muscle) is back in the selection mix this week and will be considered for selection against the Lions.
– Prop Oli Kebble (ankle) is fit but might be held back – selection-wise – until next weekend (v Griquas).
– Wing Seabelo Senatla (ankle) will be out for another three weeks, as reported last Wednesday.
QUOTES FROM DHL WESTERN PROVINCE COACH ALLISTER COETZEE:
On team selection (v the Lions):
“Once again, continuity is important for us. We have some decisions to make this week, after the guys who came in on rotation played so well, but there will be that (one) change at scrumhalf with Groomie out.
“The next scrumhalf in line is Godlen Masimla who was next in line during Super Rugby, and ahead of Dylon Frylinck (who went on to play for the DHL Stormers), but broke his hand during the first week of the 2014 Vodacom Cup.”
On Justin Geduld (who made his debut off the bench against the EP Kings):
“I was pleased with his impact in his first game and he will be in the reckoning this week, whether Cheslin is fit or not.”
