DHL WP head to 2014 Safari 7s

PUBLISHED: September 24, 2014

After two fourth-place finishes in August – in Limerick and London – a confident DHL Western Province Sevens team will be hunting for silverware at the 2014 Safari Sevens in Nairobi, Kenya over the next few days.

The 2014 tournament will take place from September 26 to 29 at the Nyayo National Stadium and DHL WP will be relying on some of their World Club Sevens stars to make their presence felt in Nairobi.

The likes of Earl Johnson, Armien Bailey, Iewan Bartels and Joshua Bassingthwaighte all stood out as DHL WP narrowly missed out on final places at the World Club Sevens events at Thomond Park and Twickenham on successive weekends last month, as their performances showed that Province are a force to be reckoned with at Sevens level.

DHL WP Sevens coach Ricky Petersen said: “I was very proud of the guys in Limerick and London. We did not play well at all last year in London, so it was important for the team to show that we mean business when it comes to Sevens rugby.

“We have some good continuity from those tournaments in August, with eight players returning and just four new faces in Brandon Asher-Wood, Patrick O’Brien, Eldon Hess and Deego Arends – all of whom will add to the team.”
