PUBLISHED: July 3, 2015

DHL Western Province beat Border by 12-10 in the final match of the SARU Girls Under-16 Week on Friday, to be crowned the unofficial champions for the fifth year in a row.

The DHL WP Girls U16s performed brilliantly during the week, winning three matches and conceding just 10 points in the process at Oudtshoorn’s CJ Langenhoven Gymnasium.

Before today’s win over Border, the Province Girls defeated the Limpopo Blue Bulls 26-0 on Day One and claimed a big 48-0 victory against Free State on Day Two.

These impressive performances earned the DHL WP Girls a place in the main match of the tournament against Border, who were also unbeaten going into Friday’s final round.

The clash was close as the teams threw everything at one another for the duration of the match, but the two- point difference on the scoreboard ultimately handed the Cape side the top honours.

The Leopards also maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament, although the Potchefstroom side played to a 12-12 draw against SWD.

Border CD, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat on the final day against the dominant Limpopo Blue Bulls, who secured a 19-5 victory to finish the tournament on a positive note.

The final day also proved good for the Golden Lions, who defeated the Griffons 19-0 for their first and only victory in the tournament.
