The DHL Western Province Emerging team claimed a 13-7 win over SWD in Friday’s final to walk off with overall honours in the 2014 Southern Amateur Provincial Championship in Humansdorp.
Having beaten an EP Invitational side 36-24 on Monday and Boland by 30-12 on Wednesday, the DHL WP Emerging team made it three from three on a jam-packed finals day.
Of course, the Cape side registered a 28-19 victory against SWD in the 2013 final, and also won the title in 2012, whilst there was extra reason to celebrate on Friday when Hamilton”s flyhalf Shane Vallender (pictured above) was named as Player of the Tournament.
The DHL Western Province Emerging team were tested throughout the clash by the determined SWD outfit, which resulted in a thrilling final.
But Province”s ability to make better use of their points-scoring chances earned them the narrow – and deserved – victory.
Meanwhile, EP Urban won the Plate Final after they thrashed their Rural counterparts 51-7, while Boland finished the tournament in third place following an impressive 67-5 victory against Border.
The Wellington side were dominant from the outset thanks to an impressive attacking display, which they supported with a solid defensive effort.
In the other match Border Rural outplayed the EP Invitational 51-29.
