The 2013 DHL Western Province Emerging squad has been named for the 2013 SA Rugby Amateur Provincial Competition.
This exciting Province selection, made up of non-contracted players from premier league clubs across the region, will now be known as the WP Emerging squad – as opposed to the WP Amateur squad.
DHL WP, of course, are the defending Southern champions and will be hoping to go one better in the national edition of this tournament, after going down narrowly in last year's overall final.
UWC star Freddie Muller (pictured) will captain the WP Emerging team, with False Bay's Shameegh Allen serving as his vice-captain.
Other familiar faces in the WP squad are Bellville wing Sinethemba Mapaqa (who has been training with the WP Currie Cup squad), SK Walmers' Danwill Erasmus (a member of the WP Sevens team in London recently, powerful SK Walmers wing Craig Pheiffer and UWC lock Pallo Manuel, who boasts Division One Currie Cup experience with Boland.
The 2013 SA Rugby Amateur Provincial Competition involves three regions of eight teams each, with the winners of each region then taking part in the national play-offs.
The Northern Amateur Provincial Competition kicked-off earlier this week. The Southern tournament, involving WP and seven other teams, will be hosted in Saldanha from September 2 to 6 and the Central competition will take place in Kimberley from September 16 to 20.
