DHL Western Province scored eight tries on their way to a comprehensive 50-10 victory against the EP Kings at City Park on Saturday.
The visitors were first to score through an early penalty from flyhalf Garrick Mattheus, but DHL Western Province
responded with two quick tries to take control of the match.
First tighthead prop Frans van Wyk forced his way over from close range, before wing Devon Williams skipped over to finish off a flowing movement, with the conversion from fullback Grant Hermanus putting the hosts 12-3 ahead.
After absorbing some pressure from the EP Kings, DHL Western Province took the game to the opposition in their half and they were rewarded when scrumhalf Justin Phillips crossed for their third try.
The visitors hit back just before half-time when a try from inside centre Andile Jho cut DHL Western Province’s lead to 17-10 at the half-time break.
DHL Western Province struck early in the second half, as centre Dan du Plessis broke clear and race away for a try which took their lead out to 24-10.
They kept the pressure on and it was no long until flyhalf Scott van Breda was able to ghost through a gap to score their fifth try which gave them firm control of proceedings.
Both teams were reduced to 14 men when DHL Western Province lock Meyer Swanepoel and EP Kings hooker Martin Bezuidenhout were shown yellow cards for an incident off the ball.
However, that did not slow the home side down, as replacement hooker Mike Willemse was next to cross for a try from a driving maul which stretched their lead to 38-10.
The tries kept coming for DHL Western Province as Van Breda dotted down his second, and the team’s seventh overall with 20 minutes still to play.
The half-century was brought up by a try from flank Luke Stringer, which proved the final nail in the EP Kings coffin.
