Clinical Under-21s overpower Sharks

PUBLISHED: August 17, 2013

The DHL Western Province Under-21s recorded an outstanding 20-3 win over the Sharks in their top-of-the-log Absa Provincial Under-21 clash at DHL Newlands.

DHL WP overpowered their hosts up front to score a victory which has pushed them to the top of the 2013 Under-21 standings (second only to the Blue Bulls on points' difference), after four rounds of action.

WP's tries were scored by captain Josh Katzen and right-wing Craig Barry, with flyhalf Tim Swiel converting both five-pointers at a wet DHL Newlands.

Swiel also kicked two penalties, as the home side led 13-3 at half-time through Katzen's try and Swiel's kicks, before Barry's second-half try and Swiel's extras.

It was a pleasing win for DHL WP Under-21 coach John Dobson, who said afterwards: “The guys stood up and showed great character in tough conditions.

“We made a few changes going into this match, but I was pleased with how we shut the Sharks out and managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over.”

WP will travel to Johannesburg to face the Golden Lions Under-21s next weekend.
