Supporters attending the Currie Cup North-South derby between DHL Western Province and the Vodacom Blue Bulls at DHL Newlands on Saturday are encouraged to support the Caring4Girls initiative by donating sanitary products in the collection boxes at the stadium entrances.

As part of SA Rugby’s celebration of Women’s Month to promote the interests of Women and Women in rugby, collection boxes will be placed at the main entrances of the stadium on Saturday to give the DHL Newlands Faithful a chance to support this cause.

Currie Cup sponsors DirectAxis and Nashua have each volunteered to donate R5000 worth of sanitary products to the cause, while they will also have sanitary product collection points at their offices.

President of the Western Province Rugby Football Union, Mr Thelo Wakefield, urged the DHL Newlands Faithful to show their support for this worthy cause.

“This is a great opportunity for us as a rugby community to stand together with women during Women’s Month,” he said.

Western Province Rugby Group CEO Paul Zacks said that he is looking forward to seeing DHL Newlands pay tribute to women in a fitting fashion.

“This is a vitally important initiative and I know that the DHL Newlands Faithful will show why they are the best supporters in the country on Saturday,” he said.

SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux added his voice to those praising the initiative.

“I would like to thank our provincial unions and Currie Cup sponsors for their support in assisting us to mark Women’s Month on a very special note this year,” he said.

“Women form the cornerstone of society and it is fantastic that we are able to celebrate their contribution through this joint-initiative with our partners.

“We live in a society in which some girls miss up to 50 days of school every year due to a lack of access to adequate sanitary products, and I would like to appeal to our rugby faithful to assist us in making a difference by donating sanitary products at the Currie Cup matches on 9 and 12 August.
