Belhar, Durb-Bell top the table(s)

PUBLISHED: March 18, 2014

Western Province sides, Durbanville-Bellville and Belhar, will play home semifinals after they topped their respective groups at the conclusion of the league phase of the inaugural Community Challenge Club competition.

Durb-Bell and Belhar finished their round robin commitments in first place in their respective groups and will now host semifinals against Villagers Worcester and Hawston, respectively.

Villagers Worcester drew 10-10 with SK Walmers to finish in second place, whilst Hawston secured second position in Group A despite going down heavily to a rampant Durb-Bell (17-59) at the weekend.

The Cup and Shield Section semifinals will take place in Wellington this Saturday (March 22), with the finals taking place the following weekend.

* A total of eight clubs – four clubs each from the Boland and Western Province Premier leagues – formed part of the inaugural Community Challenge, which kicked-off on March 1, 2014.

The competition offers an alternative opportunity for those clubs and players who did not qualify for participation in the 2014 Cell C Community Cup to showcase their talents during a competition which will also serve as a talent identification opportunity.
