Club rugby is returning to DHL Newlands in grand style, with the hosting of the 2014 Western Province Rugby Football Union’s President’s Cup Finals Day this coming Saturday (October 4).
Four club finals will be played at DHL Newlands on Saturday, starting at 11h10 with the Super League A Under-20 Final and finishing off with the Super League A Final, which gets underway at 15h30.
The day’s first final will see False Bay take on Durbanville-Bellville at U20 level, before the Super League C Final between Franschoek and Langa (kick-off 12h30), the SLB Final between Villager’s and Milnerton (14h00) and, finally, the SLA Final between Durbanville-Bellville and Belhar (15h30).
The seven clubs in action on Saturday have been battling it out for the coveted final spots these past few weeks, with some entertaining semifinal matches taking place at City Park and Brookeside on September 20.
Two semifinal clashes were settled via penalty ‘kick-outs’, whilst Belhar caused a big shock by defeating Hamilton’s 31-29 in their hard-fought Super League A semifinal at City Park – that after Durb-Bell had managed a hard-fought 31-20 win over False Bay a bit earlier in the day.
But the on-field excitement aside, there is plenty on the go for the committed club rugby fans coming to DHL Newlands on Saturday – with ground entry priced at just R10! (Tickets can be purchased from the DHL Newlands Box Office on the day.)
The Castle Lawns will also be open, with the DHL WP v FS Cheetahs (Absa Currie Cup – 14h00) and the Springboks v All Blacks (Castle Rugby Championship – 17h00) matches both being screened LIVE! Best of all, however, is that R30,000 worth of prizes and prize money is up for grabs on Saturday for the best dressed SUPER FAN!
The WPRFU President’s Cup Finals Day is presented by WP Rugby, SAB and the Treble Group. And thanks to our media partners on the day, Cape Town TV and Bok Radio.
