The 2015 Spur Youth Mini Rugby Day took place at Bellville Technical High School on Saturday, May 16 and it was a resounding success.
Almost 4,000 children took part in Saturday’s event, with many eager parents providing support to their kids and swelling the crowd numbers.
For the first time ever, children from the Hubs programme were introduced into proceedings (through the TAG Rugby programme), whilst a total of 88 schools teams took part in the Mini Rugby (Under-7 to Under-9) competitions.
DHL Stormers stars Nizaam Carr, Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Kurt Coleman and Dillyn Leyds also popped in and met some of the children and supporters – adding to the excitement on the day, as the whole of Bellville almost came to a standstill!
Danny Jones, the General Manager of Amateur Rugby at the WPRFU, commented: “Thanks must go to our title sponsors, Spur, for their continued support of our Mini Rugby Programme and to everyone else for making this day possible – the rest of our sponsors, including Genuine Connection and Let’s Play, our staff and any volunteers who helped out on the day too.
“It’s an honour to be part of events like this and it makes all the hard work so worthwhile when you see the enjoyment on the kids’ faces.”
