The 2013 Western Province Referees’ Awards took place on the first Friday of this month (November 2013), with Marius van der Westhuizen scooping two awards on the night.

Van der Westhuizen was recently added to the Super Rugby refereeing panel and he celebrated his ‘call-up’ with two more gongs in what has been a stellar year for the young whistleman.

At the other end of the scale, meanwhile, Jonathan Kaplan – who has stepped down from top-level refereeing – was honoured in his absence, whilst a number of young refs and clubs were also rewarded for consistent seasons.
