PLAN YOUR DAY AT DHL NEWLANDS

PUBLISHED: March 12, 2013

You are fanatical about DHL Western Province, would love to watch them at DHL Newlands but do not know how to get to the stadium, what it has to offer, where to park, where to sit, what restaurant to visit for post-victory drinks, what you can bring to the arena or where to buy tickets? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the perfect information highway for you!

You’ve travelled a far distance to get to DHL Newlands but you are now faced with the challenge of finding a parking spot?

There is public parking available around the stadium, but get to the ground early or you will struggle to find an open bay. The most popular parking spots are at Groote Schuur High School & Primary School (off Palmyra /Campground Road), Sans Souci Girls School & Newlands Swimming Pool (Main Road Newlands). Costs range between R20 and R50 per vehicle.

So, you’ve found your parking spot and have a few hours to spare before kickoff? Why not enjoy the Club Newlands Village in the gardens beside the stadium, where you can relax with other supporters and purchase food and beverages, or walk down Boundary Road and take a look at the numerous stalls and vendors along the way, where you can buy anything from lekker boerewors and onion rolls – straight from the skottel – to DHL Western Province fan posters.

If you are more inclined to sit down and relax, before you get caught up in the fervor and excitement of the match, you can frequent the many restaurants that you will find peppered around the stadium. Golden Spur Newlands (Main Road), Toad & Josephine (Millhouse), Slug & Lettuce (Main Road), Scoozi on Dean (Dean Street Mall), Springbok Pub (Boundary Road), Foresters Arms (Newlands Avenue), Bihari Indian Restaurant (Main Road), Cubana (Main Road) and Stardust Café (Main Road, Rondebosch) are just a few of the restaurants/bars that you can visit. Also, don’t hesitate to celebrate the DHL Western Province victory at any of these venues!

It’s nearing kickoff, you want to start making your way to your seat but you do not know what you can bring inside DHL Newlands, whether the stadium is wheelchair friendly, what refreshments are on sale, where the first-aid section or info kiosk is, if your seat is exposed tosunlight, what your seat is made of and where the players come out of the tunnel?

No alcohol, cans or bottles of any sort – in other words, any kind of liquid – may be brought into DHL Newlands. Musical instruments of any nature, including vuvuzela’s are not permitted.
Bags and coolers are subject to search on entry. Small digital cameras for the purposes of still photography will be allowed. Cameras and with zoom / detachable lenses are not permitted. Video cameras are not permitted.

Wheelchair access is available on the Grand Stand Ramp seating. Special arrangements must be made with Jason Segers at [email protected] or 021 659 4600). Wheelchair access is also available through the Chris Burger/Petro Jackson Players’ Fund Private Suite.

A full-range of refreshments are on sale inside the ground, including alcoholic (over 18’s only) and non-alcoholic beverages. You won’t have to spend your time worrying about going thirsty and spend more time shouting for the DHL Western Province! Because we care about your safety, there are medical officials standing by on each level of the stadium. In case of emergency notify the nearest security official or contact ER24 on 084 124. The WP Rugby Match Day Office or info kiosk is located in the back of the Grand Stand, accessible from Boundary Road or Grand Stand Level 1.

The sun sets behind the Grand Stand, exposing level 1 and 2 of the Railway Stand to sunshine. Level 1, 2, 3 of the Grand Stand ; The rear section of Railway Stands level 2, and the Jan Pickard stand are sheltered from sunshine in the afternoon (13:00 -18:00). The players will run out of the tunnel, situated between Grand Stand seating blocks D-E.
