Aerofloor: How it’s helping DHL Western Province

PUBLISHED: September 30, 2014

The DHL Western Province medical team has been making good use of the team’s new Aerofloor device, which has been at the High Performance Centre in Bellville since the start of the 2014 Absa Currie Cup season.

Aerofloor is a training surface like no other which utilises high grade fabrics and ‘controlled energy return technology’ to provide an incredible energy giving and energy absorbing training surface.

This platform has been supplied to a number of leading Premiership Football clubs (Manchester United, Everton and Liverpool to name three) and rugby teams/outfits (the Welsh Rugby Union and top English Premiership clubs Northampton Saints and Saracens) and has become a focal point of their training regimes and has now entered the health and fitness sector.

Lize van Schalkwyk, who heads up the rehabilitation department at WP Rugby, told www.wprugby.com: “I have been using the Aerofloor with a variety of injuries – post-ACL reconstruction, ankle injuries, ‘turf-toe’, hamstring strains, etc.

“It works well to train proprioception and push-off action over the ankle without straining the joint because of the forgiving surface of the mat. It helps in improving hip, knee and ankle control.”

Senior WP Rugby physiotherapist Wayne Hector added: “It’s a great tool to use for the whole squad to improve explosive power without loading the joints on a hard surface.”
