Both DHL Western Province Women and DHL Western Province U21 will play in their respective SA Rugby Championship finals on Saturday.
DHL Western Province Women will be looking to retain their title and make it an unbeaten season when they face old rivals Border in a home final at City Park, which will kick off at 15h00 on Saturday.
This will be the fourth consecutive year that the two teams meet in the final, but the first time that DHL Western Province will be playing on home turf. Entrance at City Park will be free, with Golden Lions up against SWD in the B-section final which will be played as a curtain-raiser.
DHL Western Province Women’s Head Coach Laurian Johannes said that her team is determined to make the most of home advantage.
“We have put in a lot of hard work this season to earn the right to play the final at home and we would like to make the most of it.
“We know that Border will present a tough challenge as usual, but our focus is on our game and imposing ourselves on them,” she said.
Following their dominant 52-10 semifinal win against Toyota Free State U21, DHL Western Province U21 will travel to Bloemfontein to face Vodacom Blue Bulls U21 in the final, which will be televised live on SuperSport One at 13h45 on Saturday as a curtain-raiser for the Currie Cup Final.
Having finished the league phase of the SA Rugby U21 Championships in second position, DHL Western Province U21 ran in seven tries in their semifinal win at Villager FC, to book their place in the final on Saturday.
DHL Western Province U21 Head Coach Jerome Paarwater said that it will be vital for his team to harness the winning momentum they have built up over the last few weeks.
“Our team has really come together and started to play well as a unit, so we need to continue and build on that.
“It is always special to be involved in a final, but the key will be to remain focused on the task at hand so that we are able to perform to our full potential in Bloemfontein on Saturday,” he said.
