DHL WP U21 hold off Bulls U21 at DHL Newlands

DHL Western Province U21 worked hard for a vital 21-20 win against Vodacom Blue Bulls U21 at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

All of the tries came in the first half, with the second half tied 3-3, which meant that DHL WP U21 took the win by the narrowest of margins.

Both teams scored two tries in an exciting first half, which saw the home side take a slender 18-17 lead into the break.

It was the visitors who made a fast start as captain JC Pretorius scored in the first minute. DHL WP U21 got on the scoreboard shortly afterwards with a penalty from flyhalf David Coetzer.

The teams then traded penalties before Davis was put over for the first of his tries by centre Rikus Pretorius.

The Pretoria side hit back through their left wing, but Davids would score again just before half-time as he took a long pass from fullback David Kriel who had gone on a weaving run from his own 22.

DHL WP U21 were first to strike in the second half with a Coetzer penalty and the visitors reposnded with one of their own to make it a one-point game again.

Both teams had chances to win the game at the death, but DHL WP U21 held on for a crucial win in the end.
