DHL WP U19 come up short in Joburg

PUBLISHED: September 15, 2018

DHL Western Province U19 scored four tries but could not avoid a 42-32 defeat against Xerox Golden Lions U19 in Johannesburg on Saturday.

A hat-trick from elusive fullback Quan Eyman was not enough at Emirates Airline Park, as the home side scored six tries to claim victory.

DHL Western Province U19 had taken a 15-12 lead into half-time, but Xerox Golden Lions U19 were too strong in the second half to claim what was a 10-point victory in the end.

The hosts kicked things off with two early tries, while DHL Western Province responded with a penalty from flyhalf David Coetzer.

Two unanswered tries from the fleet-footed Eyman would see DHL Western Province take a slender three-point lead into the break.

The teams traded blows in the second half, as a third from Eyman and a fourth try from replacement flyhalf Christopher Schreuder saw the match locked up at 29-29.

However, the Xerox Golden Lions U19 would pull away with two more tries, while DHL Western Province U19 could only manage a further penalty from the boot of Schreuder.
