The DHL Western Province Sevens team has been forced into a late change ahead of the inaugural World Club 7s which takes place at Twickenham on Friday and Saturday of this week.
Ryan Nell has been called up to the DHL Western Province Absa Currie Cup matchday squad for this weekend, with Ruan Mostert – one of the three non-travelling reserves named earlier this week – flying out with the team on Wednesday evening.
Speaking earlier this week, captain Stefan de Villiers said the squad was looking forward to the two-day tournament at the home of English Rugby: “Not many players get the opportunity to play at the home of English Rugby, so it’s exciting for us but also important that we give a good account (of ourselves and our union) at the World Club 7s.”
The first-ever World Club 7s brings together, for the first time, some of the biggest names in club and provincial rugby from the northern and southern hemispheres, together with some of the emerging names in the Sevens game. DHL Western Province have been drawn in Pool A – along with Gloucester, New York and VVA Moscow Region.
