WPRFU pay tribute to Masiphumele hooker at DHL Newlands

The Western Province Rugby Football Union will pay tribute to the life of Masiphumele Rugby Football Club hooker Steven Jacobs by holding a minute’s silence before the Currie Cup encounter between DHL Western Province and the Xerox Golden Lions at DHL Newlands on Friday.

Jacobs sadly succumbed to his injuries sustained during a Promotion League fixture against the visiting Caledonian Roses Rugby Football Club this past weekend.

President of the WPRFU, Mr Thelo Wakefield, said that it is only right that Jacobs’ life be recognised at DHL Newlands.

“Club rugby is crucial to the strength of this union and our club system is a major part of the wider community.

“Therefore it is only right that we pay tribute to the life of one of our own who has fallen.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Steven’s family and friends at this difficult time and we stand together with them,” said Wakefield.
