DHL WP injury report – 07/09/15

PUBLISHED: September 7, 2015

DHL Western Province captain Nizaam Carr is in doubt for his team's Absa Currie Cup clash against the Cell C Sharks in Durban on Saturday, after picking up a hamstring strain at the weekend.

Carr limped off in the 33rd minute of his team”s 33-15 win over ORC Griquas this past Saturday and he has been given until Thursday”s team announcement to prove his fitness.

In some good news, however, fellow loose forward Sikhumbuzo Notshe is available for selection after missing the bonus point win over Griquas.

The full DHL Western Province injury report (07/09/15):

– No.8 Nizaam Carr (hamstring strain) will be given until Thursday – when the DHL WP team is announced – to prove his fitness ahead of the weekend.
– Loosehead prop Oli Kebble (hamstring) and flanker Sikhumbuzo Notshe (AC Joint) are both back at training and available for selection.
– Scrumhalf Jano Vermaak (finger) is back at training after missing the past two weeks of casino online action.
– Lock/flank Jurie van Vuuren came through the match against Griquas well (playing 57 minutes), having not played for three months.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JOHN DOBSON:

On captain Nizaam Carr”s injury and possible replacements:

“Nizaam is certainly looking a lot better than we initially thought on Saturday, but we will make a final call on him when we announce our team on Thursday.

“Notshe would be a like for like replacement were Nizaam to miss out, whilst Nic Groom did well as captain when Nizaam went off on Saturday.”

On the challenge of facing the Sharks in Durban:

“They”ve got a massive kicking game. They don”t play any rugby in their own half and they”ve got very good chase lines. We can”t allow their backs any momentum, especially a guy like Lionel Cronjé, who we know well, as that will bring a guy like André Esterhuizen into the game strongly.”
