DHL WP injury report – 24/08/15

PUBLISHED: August 24, 2015

DHL Western Province forwards Oli Kebble and Chris van Zyl could both miss this Friday’s Absa Currie Cup clash against the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Kebble has a hamstring niggle, whilst Van Zyl took a bang to his knee against the Blue Bulls at the weekend. Van Zyl is definitely out of the match against the Cheetahs and Kebble is a big doubt.

Meanwhile, scrumhalf Nic Groom will be playing for the Barbarians in the United Kingdom this week and will not be available for the Cheetahs clash.

The full DHL Western Province injury report (24/08/15):

– Lock Chris van Zyl (knee) will not be available for the Cheetahs match.
– Loosehead prop Oli Kebble (hamstring) is a big doubt for this week.
– Scrumhalf Louis Schreuder (hamstring) is back at full training and available for selection this week.
– Lock/flank Jurie van Vuuren (shoulder) is back at full training and will be available for selection from next week only.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JOHN DOBSON:

On the weekend’s defeat to the Blue Bulls:

“We were well beaten. We went to Pretoria to play rugby, but we didn’t.

“Once the Bulls had momentum it was hard to stop them and, quite frankly, it was an embarrassment to Western Province Rugby the way we played. Not one of our players enhanced their reputations.”

On bouncing back against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein:

“The guys were absolutely devastated in the changeroom afterwards, which, I guess, is a good sign for me as a coach.

“We have plenty to work on, it goes without saying, but we need to move on quickly and fix the mistakes we made in what is a short week.

“We know it’s a hard game against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, but we need to bounce back with a good win. Another defeat would put us in a hard position, so we need to win this one and push for that bonus point.”
