Club Rugby Week Nine – Tygerberg in shock win

Tygerberg caused a huge shock in Week Nine of the 2015 Western Province Club Rugby season by beating Cell C Community Cup champions, Durb-Bell, 22-10.

Tygerberg, playing at home at Florida Park, matched their opponents in the forward exchanges and kept them scoreless in the second half to record a memorable victory.

Hamiltons anchored their top position on the log by totally demolishing the hapless Helderberg in Strand and recorded a massive 104-11 win, running in 16 tries in the process.

Belhar beat hosts Primrose at Rosmead 22-16 and Sir Lowrians came back strongly in their game against SK Walmers and picked up a valuable bonus point as they went down by 33-40.

In Super League B, Union Milnerton lost their unbeaten record going down to hosts Pniel Villagers by 35-40, while Kuilsriver retained the top spot on the log with a solid victory against Hands & Hearts (35-23).

The only other unbeaten team in the league, NNK, easily beat Rangers 37-3, Bellville came back strongly to beat Collegians 25-20 in Lentegeur, Franschhoek scored a fine 24-22 victory over Macassar, Hamlets were too strong for Young Peoples, running out 43-17 winners, and, lastly, Brackenfell easily beat Violets by 39-12.

In Super League C, Goodwood ran out 36-13 winners against Northerns, log leaders Kraaifontein easily beat Langa 52-26 and Young Stars came out tops in a hard fought match at Green Point beating Strand United 32-29. Elsies River United beat Strand 28-23, Paarl easily dispatched with Silvertree at Faure Street 37-13, Silverleaf went down to Scottsdene by the narrowest of margins losing 27-28 and Blue Jets beat StelCor 29-22 at Idas Valley.

In the Paarl Region Vineyards beat Allandale 32-29 as they keep their title hope alive and Violets (Paarl) beat Simondium 19-17 in a tough tussle at Simondium.

In the City League Busy Bees beat Hamediehs by only one point winning 21-20 at Vygieskraal, Manenberg Rangers beat Watsonia 25-12 and Callies ran away with Police 57 to 5. Temp Cities played out to an exciting draw with Perseverance sharing the spoils 24-all.

In the Northern League, Blakes beat Imiqhayi 32-17 in Cloetesville, Blue Stars United easily beat Atlantis 48-10 in Klapmuts, Strand Pioneers ran out winners against All Saints 31-15 and Whistling Wheels beat Khayelitsha 21-0 in Kleinvlei.

In the Southern League Lagunya beat Peninsula 21-18 at Sandvlei, Rocklands beat Bishop Lavis 19-17 in Mitchells Plain and Thistles ran out winners against Titans 26-16.

In the Simonsberg Region, Evergreens beat Phizantekraal 21-20, Constantia scored a good victory over Excelsior 21-14 and Faure ran away with Lanquedoc winning 37-7.

In the Women’s competition, Union Milnerton easily beat Khayamandi 75-0.
