WP Mini Rugby Day moves to Bellville

PUBLISHED: May 14, 2015

Western Province’s annual Spur Youth Mini Rugby Day will take place at Bellville Technical High School on Saturday, May 16 and there will be some exciting additions to the 2015 event.

For starters, the venue, Bellville Technical High School, is a new one, whilst the Primary School kids (Under-7 to Under-9) will be joined by children from the WPRFU’s successful Hubs Development Programme.

The kids from the Hubs programme will be playing TAG Rugby, as they continue their exposure to the game of rugby union, with a massive 88 schools teams taking part in the Mini Rugby (Under-7 to Under-9) competitions.

In total, over 3,500 children will attend the 2015 Youth Mini Rugby Day, with generous support from Spur, Genuine Connection and Let’s Play, as the Western Province Rugby Football Union continues to give its youngsters opportunities like this.

Saturday’s first matches will get underway at 08h00, with the day coming to an end at 14h00 – meaning those wanting to support DHL Western Province in the Vodacom Cup quarterfinals (at City Park – 15h30) will still be able to do so.

“This is, and will always be, a big day in our rugby calendar at Western Province,” said Danny Jones, the General Manager of Amateur Rugby at the WPRFU.

“Our thanks to title sponsors, Spur, for their continued support of our Mini Rugby Programme and to everyone else for making this day possible – the rest of our sponsors, including Genuine Connection and Let’s Play, our staff and any volunteers who are helping out on the day.

“We look forward to an exciting day of rugby and ensuring that the kids in the region continue to pursue their rugby dreams because of days like this.”
