Week Five of the 2015 Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) Club Rugby season produced some tense midweek rugby action.
On Wednesday night Vics stunned UCT at the Green Mile running out 27 to 26 winners in a very physical encounter.
The Maties then made it two from two for Stellenbosch teams when the Maties beat UCT easily by 31-12 at the weekend.
In other Super League A action this past week, Hamiltons ran away with newcomers Villager easily dispatching them 66-3. Tygerberg provided the shock of the week beating the more fancied student team of Vics 10-7 with some great defence on display in the latter stages of the match at the Danie Craven Stadium.
In further Super League A action, Durb-Bell thrashed Primrose 65-15, False Bay kept a clean sheet against Belhar winning by 41-0, UWC beat St Georges 38-10 and newcomers Sir Lowrians ran out winners by 47 to 22 over Helderberg at Charles Morkel Stadium.
In Super League B, NNK beat Franschhoek 39-16, Raithby stunned Hearts winning by 20-19 and Young Stars got the better of Goodwood by 19-5. Bellville felt they were unlucky against Kuilsriver losing narrowly 26-28 at Bellville South, Violets beat Macassar 22-19 and Unie Milnerton continued their good form beating Rangers 22-0.
In Super League C, Kraaifontein lost narrowly to hosts Elsies River 23-27, Paarl beat Northerns 27 to 12 and Masiphumelele beat Strand in a low scoring game by 13 to 8 in Noordhoek.
In the City League competition Busy Bees recorded a victory over Tech Tuine 30-25, Police lost to Manenberg Rangers 0-33 and Callies easily beat Western Zebras by 21 to 6.
In the Northern Region, Bishop Lavis took their first win of the season by beating Retreat 29 -21, Eersterivier ran away with Titans 60-12 and Rocklands beat Young Wesleys 19-10.
In the Paarl League Young Standards easily beat Perel United 59-0, Allandale beat Paarl Rangers 42-21 and Vineyards beat Violets (Paarl) 36-5.
In Women’s action, the top-of-the-table clash at the University of the Western Cape delivered everything as expected, with Unie Milnerton ladies scraping home by 5-3 against the students of UWC.
On Wednesday night, Primrose travels to Stellenbosch to take on the Maties in Super League A action, Helderberg travel to UCT and Vics take on UWC at the UWC campus.
Friday night will see the Maties take on Vics at Danie Craven Stadium with another full round of matches in all leagues scheduled for Saturday.
