Club Rugby Week Four – the latest

PUBLISHED: May 4, 2015

The fourth week of 2015 Western Province Club Rugby action was an exciting one, with some teams making their presence felt in the top league with some impressive performances.

In Super League A, Hamiltons thumped a hapless UWC 79-21 running in 13 tries to three and SK Walmers beat Primrose 35-17 at a packed Green Point Track with a solid performance from fullback Ghakiem Larnie.

At Brookside, Villagers lost their unbeaten record to a solid performance from Tygerberg going down 19-25.

In Super League B, Macassar recorded their first win of the season beating Collegians 24-21 in a tight game at Lentegeur. Hamlets lost their unbeaten record to Rangers going down 24-40 and the poor season of Young Peoples continued as they lost 30-32 to an impressive Violets in Paarl.

In Super League C, Kraaifontein remain unbeaten – coming out on top against Young Stars 32-23 – and Silvertree remain winless this season after losing 25-27 to Strand United at Malta Park. Scottsdene were unfortunate in a narrow game, losing out 25-27 against Strand and also forfeiting their unbeaten record in the process.

In the City League competition, Busy Bees recorded a well-deserved win over new comers Western Zebras at Langa winning 23-12, while Police and Tech Tuine played to an exciting 31-31 draw at Pinelands.

In the Northern Region, Blakes returned to winning ways by beating Khayelitsha 24-19. In the Southern League things are hotting up nicely with Rocklands and Young Brothers both scoring good victories to remain unbeaten in the league so far. Rocklands beat Eersterivier 26-21 and Young Brothers beat Titans 22-16. In Paarl, Young Gardens went down heavily against Vineyards 18-47.

In the WPRFU Women’s competition, meanwhile, Pniel Ladies narrowly beat Busy Bee Ladies 12-10 and 2014 league champions Blue Jet Ladies easily beat Khayamandi Ladies 34-0.

In other women’s fixtures, Union Milnerton Ladies and UWC Ladies recorded runaway victories over United Brothers Ladies and Franschhoek Ladies, respectively.

On Wednesday, Belhar travels to Stellenbosch and Vics take on UCT at the University of Cape Town fields.

Due to the DHL Stormers v Brumbies clash at DHL Newlands on Saturday (kick-off 17h05), as well as a Vodacom Cup fixture (DHL WP v SWD), most club games will take place on Friday night this week.
