The DHL Western Province Under-19 team claimed a hard-fought 38-35 win over the Blue Bulls Under-19s in Pretoria on Friday.
Vice-captain and left-wing JP Lewis ran in a hat-trick of tries for the visitors, whilst flyhalf Tommy Allan weighed in with 23 points of his own to secure the huge win away from home against this highly-rated Bulls line-up.
Allan scored a try and kicked three conversions and four penalties, his last penalty in the 64th minute securing the win for the DHL WP U19s – that after a converted try by the Bulls had tied the match at 35-35 with seven minutes left on the clock.
The Bulls led 23-20 at half-time, but WP’s youngsters showed great composure to record a win on the Loftus Versfeld ‘B’ Field.
This result means that the WP Under-19s (34 points) are now just one log point behind the Bulls (35), but with a game in hand over their rivals from Pretoria.
